§ 26-2. Participation by minors in activities of volunteer fire company.

  • (a)

    Subject to any restrictions that may be placed by a volunteer fire company or by the town council, any person who is 16 years of age or older, after first obtaining his parent's or guardian's approval, in writing, is authorized to work with or participate fully in all activities of a volunteer fire company, provided such person has obtained certification under National Fire Protection Association 1001, Level One, Firefighter Standards, as administered by the state department of fire programs, and provided that the volunteer fire company has purchased insurance which provides coverage for injuries to or the death of such person in the performance of activities under this section.

    (b)

    The certification record and parental/guardian consent shall be kept on file in the office of the volunteer fire company for each participant who is enrolled in a fire company pursuant to this section, and the name of each participant shall be filed with the clerk of the circuit court pursuant to Code of Virginia, § 27-42.
